Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Devon McCauley's personal portfolio site (the "Site") handles information when you visit it.
Summary
- No account or sign-in is required to use any part of the Site.
- The only information you actively provide is what you type into the contact form — your name, email address, and message — and that is used solely to reply to you.
- The Site uses privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to understand aggregate traffic. It does not use advertising trackers or cross-site tracking cookies.
- No sensitive categories of personal data are requested, and nothing you enter is sold or shared for marketing.
1. Information You Provide (Contact Form)
If you use the contact form, the following is sent to the Site owner's inbox by email so your message can be read and answered:
- The name you enter
- The email address you enter
- The message you write
This information is transmitted only when you submit the form. It is delivered by email via an SMTP email provider and is used for the sole purpose of corresponding with you. It is not added to a mailing list or used for marketing. To protect the form from abuse, the server temporarily records the requesting IP address in volatile memory to enforce a submission limit (5 submissions per 15 minutes); this record is never written to a database or long-term logs and is cleared automatically.
2. Analytics
The Site uses Vercel Web Analytics to measure aggregate, anonymized usage — such as which pages are viewed and general traffic volume. This analytics is cookieless: it does not set tracking cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not build an individual profile of you. A visitor is counted using a hash derived from request data that is rotated regularly and does not store your raw IP address.
3. Local Storage (Theme Preference)
The Site stores a single theme preference (light or dark) in your browser's localStorage so the Site remembers your choice on your next visit. This is a functional setting that stays on your device, is never transmitted to any server, and is not used for tracking. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
4. Server Logs
Like virtually all websites, the Site's hosting provider (Vercel) automatically captures standard technical logs — such as IP address, browser type, and timestamp — for security, stability, and operational monitoring. This infrastructure-level logging is not used to identify individual visitors.
5. Résumé Download
The résumé download simply serves a static PDF file. Requesting it does not require or collect any personal information from you beyond the standard server logs described above.
6. Third-Party Service Providers
The Site relies on the following providers, solely to host the Site and deliver contact-form messages:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosts the Site and provides cookieless analytics | Standard server logs; anonymized aggregate usage |
| SMTP email provider | Delivers contact-form messages | Name, email, and message you submit |
No advertising networks, session-replay tools, or third-party tracking technologies are used. Personal data is not sold, rented, or shared for marketing purposes.
7. Children's Privacy
The Site is a professional portfolio intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. No information is knowingly collected from children.
8. Your Choices and Rights
Because the Site collects so little, there is generally very little to access, export, or delete. If you submitted a message through the contact form and would like it removed from the owner's inbox, just ask. Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); you are welcome to exercise them by contacting devmccauley@gmail.com.
9. International Visitors
The Site is operated from, and primarily intended for visitors in, the United States. If you access it from elsewhere, you do so understanding that your technical interactions with the Site's servers are processed in the United States.
10. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time — for example, as the Site changes. The "Last updated" date above will change when it does.
